A Yorkshire IT company is celebrating 25 years in business.
From its head office now at Cayley Court in Scarborough supported by engineer’s office’s in Leeds and Hull, Care Micro provides IT services to small and medium-sized businesses across the country.
It was set up in 1992 by Managing Director Mike Shingler, who has more than 30 years’ experience in the computer industry.
“There have been huge changes in the computer industry over these years,” Mr Shingler said. “Back then the internet was in its infancy. Google, Facebook and Twitter hadn’t been invented and cloud computing was yet to be brought to everyone’s attention by Microsoft.
“Many IT service companies did not survive the financial crisis 10 years ago. However, Care Micro did, by adapting and moving into areas such as Microsoft’s Office365, online data backup, disaster recovery and IT security, whilst continuing to provide a loyal customer base with more traditional hardware maintenance and software support services.
“It’s been a rollercoaster ride but a very enjoyable one!”
Scarborough-born, Mr Shingler first got involved with computers whilst working as an engineer in the UK and abroad, during the 1970s. In the 1980s he set up ICI Computer Systems, a successful subsidiary company for ICI. It grew from a team of five to a staff of 100 within seven years and had a turnover of £15m.
In 1992 ICI sold off ICI Computer Systems and offered Mike a senior position at ICI’s head office in London. He chose instead to stay in Scarborough and set up Care Micro, firstly out at Dunslow Court in Eastfield and later Columbus Ravine in Scarborough
The company now provides three types of service: supply and installation of equipment, IT support and maintenance and managed services, such as online data backup and disaster recovery.
It has accreditations with, amongst others, Microsoft, Dropbox, WatchGuard, Netgear, HP and Dell.
Customers include Bradford Council, Leeds Beckett University and Yorkshire Coast Enterprises.
